Anushka Sharma: How she is changing the narrative of Bollywood

Anushka Sharma began her Bollywood journey with a dream project, a Yash Raj film opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Both critics and fans were equally impressed with her charming presence and she went on to feature in several films where she played the typical happy-go-lucky girl.

However, when Anushka ventured into production with her Clean Slate Films, it was a totally new territory, be it NH 10 or Phillauri or her upcoming project, Pari. The actor has made sure that these are not regular stories.

NH 10 (2015)

Anushka’s first production brought out the dark and ugly side of suburban areas. Anushka essayed the role of a strong woman who fights for her own and retaliates, much in the typical Bollywood style. The film was loosely adapted on the 2007 Manoj-Babli honour killing case.

Phillauri (2017)

Phillauri was a satirical take on blind beliefs, superstitious traditions and a lot more. Anushka played a ghost in it and the flashback ensured issues like caste system, oppression of women and suppressing of art were addressed, even if in the passing.

Pari

On her birthday, Anushka announced her third production venture, Pari. She will be seen in the film with Bengali star Parambrata Chatterjee.

Set to be directed by debutant Prosit Roy, Pari goes on floors this June. Given the name, we hope this, too, will be a film that advocates women’s equality.

“At Clean Slate Films, we focus on a good, engaging story above all else. With new talent, we get to work on newer ideas and innovative concepts. Pari is a great script, and I have complete faith in Prosit’s vision as well as this collaboration with KriArj Entertainment,” Anushka said in a press statement.
